About Us

The Good Shepherd.

The Good Shepherd is a Church that believes in Jesus and is a community that loves God and people.

Our Mission & Vision

Our vision and mission are to help people connect with Jesus Christ

The Church of the Good Shepherd is an Anglican Church in the Diocese of Newcastle. One which takes pride in its traditions and heritage, but also embraces the fullness of expressions the Good News of Jesus Christ offers. We are a Church that is flourishing by the grace of God revealed and mediated by Jesus Christ. We are working by the power of his Holy Spirit towards seeing God’s kingdom established here on earth.

The Ordinary Extraordinary

“The mission of the church is to live the ordinary life of human beings... earning a living, bringing up a family, making friends, alleviating distress, mourning, studying, exploring, making music, and so on. Christians will try to do these things to the glory of God... that they will try to perceive what God is up to... and will seek to do it with him…”

– Bishop John V. Taylor

Living by the Scriptures and the Sacraments

As a community, we rejoice that God communicates his love for us in many ways. That the story of his grace and mercy for us is communicated in the Scriptures for us to hear and write on our hearts, but also in physical outward actions that give life to his people.

Loving Service

As people of God and his Kingdom, we strive to live as authentically as possible. Living out our faith in loving service to our community. With no agenda, except that of God's; which is to let people know that they are beloved children of our Creator.

Environmental Responsibility

God has gifted us with this earth to care for and love. As such we recognise the importance of his creation. Jesus calls us to be stewards of his creation.

Who We Are

Our Team & Leadership

As an Anglican Church, we are led by the leadership of our Bishop, the Right  Reverend Dr Peter Stuart; as every parish in the Newcastle Diocese falls under his ministry. When the Bishop is not present, the parish priest or Locum provides ministry on his behalf. The Church of the Good Shepherd is awaiting a new Rector who will work alongside the parish council, which is made up of lay people from across the parish. So that a wide range of people is represented. The parish also has retired clergy working within its area to ensure that ministry is always available to the community of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the suburb of Kotara and surrounding areas.

Heartfelt prayer and worship

We look to explore how to help people better engage with God, through the words of their lips and the actions of their hands. Making Christ known in their lives, empowering them to live into Jesus' loving grace.

Creative Evangelism and Teaching

Telling people about the Good News of Jesus Christ is one of our favourite things. As people of Christ, we rejoice in the opportunity to let all people know of the love, mercy and forgiveness that is found only in Jesus Christ. No matter what age or connection they may have with the Church.

Genuine Care

We look to Jesus as the pioneer, and perfecter of our faith. We like him aim to join in supporting people experiencing rejection, loneliness, and isolation. We pray that we can be a people that help others see the abundant life that is found in Jesus.

Faith-filled Engagement

We pray that God sets our hearts on fire with his love, and because of this, we can be passionate disciples of him who died for us. Working for the betterment of our community abroad and locally, especially in the Kotara area.
